Customers can be sent an invite when creating a new appointment or when selecting an applicable appointment type.
To do this tick Invite Customer when booking the appointment or make sure it's ticked for the appointment type that you'd like to use.
What will the customer see in the invite?
The exact email can vary based on the email platform that you're sending to but if their email account has a connected calendar service like Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar the customer will see an invite like so:
