Appointment events can be used to automate actions based on appointment activity.
This can be done by using workflows and lead actions.
The below example shows automated emails setup to send the selected email templates 1 day and also 1 hour before a scheduled appointment.
It's also possible to setup a workflow to send an email at a certain time of day by triggering it a day before the appointment. This is shown above as the third lead action.
In the workflow you can use the 'day started' schedule to set the actions to start at a specific time of day. Please see the workflows page for more information on schedules.
The above workflow is triggered 1 day before the appointment time and then waits until 9 AM (9 hours) before sending the email.
